Duopoly In The 1960's
What Is A Duopoly?
- The era of two competing broadcasters, ITV and the BBC, is referred to by many as the "Golden Age" of broadcasting in the UK.
- The two institutions had full control over the programmes as they produced them in-house.
Pros and Cons Of A Duopoly:
Pros:
- Better quality shows as the 2 broadcasters have to only compete with each other
- Production developed more of a business, talent was developed and processes improved
- Allowed in-house talent and content to be developed over time and build a loyal audience
Cons:
- Not much variation in shows to watch
- Hard for voices outside of the institution to be heard
- Content became stale and viewers would get board of the same thing
